Schulenburg Painted Churches Ride

The Wheelmen are putting together a ride in the countryside surrounding Schulenburg to visit and tour four restored Catholic churches in the area (they are known as the Painted Churches).  The wildflowers should be out and they tend to be prolific and very beautiful. We will start with a 25-mile loop in which we will visit three churches followed by an optional 20- mile loop to catch the fourth.

We’ll meet at Frank's Restaurant in Schulenburg, which is  just off I-10. Driving time is 1.5-to-2 hours. Since this event will take up most of the day, plan on getting back home mid-to-late afternoon. After the ride we can do a group lunch at Frank’s Restaurant (great country cooking).

If you would like to car-pool or caravan out there, we’ll meet at the Home Depot parking lot in the Forum shopping center at Loop 1604 & I-35. Go to the back of the lot which fronts Agora Parkway and look for Bill’s little silver pick-up truck.  We’ll meet between 6:30 & 7:00 and leave promptly at 7:00.

Since water from the spigots at the churches will be the only hydration options during the ride, be sure to bring two full water bottles and snacks.

To get to Frank's, take I-10 East to Schulenburg, exit 674 at Hwy 77. Turn right on Hwy 77 and it's immediately on the right side. Drive to the very back of the parking lot. Plan to arrive by 8:30; wheels down at 9:00.
